Forex position size calculator

This forex position size calculator turns your balance, risk percentage and stop loss into the exact lot size to trade, with pip value and margin for the pair. It is the calculation every funded trader should run before every order: on a prop account, sizing is what keeps you inside the daily loss limit.

How it works

Risk amount = balance × risk %. Pip value per standard lot = pip size × contract size, converted into USD when the quote currency isn’t USD (for USD/JPY that’s 1,000 JPY per pip ÷ the price). Lots = risk amount ÷ (stop in pips × pip value per lot).

Margin = notional ÷ leverage. Bold Funded forex accounts run 1:30 by default (1:100 on Build Your Own), so a 5-lot EUR/USD position needs roughly $18k of margin on a $100k account.

Tip: on a plan with a 5% daily loss limit, risking 1% per trade means five full-stop losses end your day. Most of our funded traders size at 0.25–0.5%.
